2010 Audi A8

Fascinating sportiness, innovative technology and superior comfort: Audi is bringing the next generation of the A8 to the starting line. The new flagship demonstrates the brand's clear Vorsprung durch Technik with its light aluminium body, its powerful and highly efficient engines, the improved MMI control system featuring a number of innovations and an elegant interior with a craftsman's level of fit and finis

The A8 also sets new standards of efficiency. The fuel consumption of each of the engines available has been substantially reduced by as much as 22 percent. The 3.0 TDI with front-wheel drive to follow later emits only 159 grams of CO2 per kilometre (255.89 g/mile), and with 6.0 litres of fuel per 100 km (39.20 US mpg), it boasts the best fuel economy in the luxury segment.

"The new Audi A8 is the sportiest sedan in the segment," says Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. "It combines numerous functions in a new and intelligent way. And it is unmatched in the stylistic elements and impression of the interior."

The new luxury sedan, to arrive at dealerships in early 2010, is a technical work of art combining sportiness and progressiveness. Its elegant and powerful body is an aluminium Audi Space Frame (ASF), weighing about 40 percent less than a comparable steel structure.

The new full LED headlights, which use light emitting diodes for all light functions, are a completely exclusive high-end solution on board the new A8.

They give the luxury sedan an unmistakable appearance even in daylight and even more so after the fall of darkness. The revolutionary optics used in these headlights mean a departure from the tubular light modules commonly used today. The full LED headlights herald a new chapter in the history of lighting technology.
The interior enchants with new, even lighter lines, uncompromising quality of fit and finish and extraordinary attention to the smallest of details. The comfort on board is first class – from new, emotionally charged ambient lighting to the luxurious adjustable rear seats.

The Audi A8 combines a new level of technical intelligence with exemplary and easy operation. When combined with the optional navigation system, its Multi Media Interface MMI includes a pioneering innovation: the MMI touch. This MMI touch system enables the driver to control many functions intuitively; for example, the navigation destination can be entered by tracing the letters on the pad with a finger.

MMI navigation plus is networked in a novel fashion with the advanced driver assistance and safety systems. It reads the road ahead in the navigation data and provides this information to the control units for the automatic transmission, the headlights and the intensely refined Audi adaptive cruise control with stop & go function.

The improved intelligence of these systems allows them to recognise complex scenarios and make anticipatory decisions to support the driver. In many situations, the new Audi pre sense safety system can mitigate accidents and their consequences. Other novel additions are a night vision assistant that highlights detected pedestrians and, coming in the course of 2010, a speed limit indicator.

2010 Audi A8

The new Audi A8 will be about 10cm longer than the current model and that means it’ll set a new standard for the space inside the cabin. To achieve this, the front axle had to move forward by 15cm which is also good for weight distribution. Of course rear passengers will benefit the most from this space increment.

As for styling, the new car will get only subtle changes specially at the front where the Audi grille is bigger than ever and the new headlights are equipped with daytime LED lights. The whole body is also more curvy and sleek than the current design.

And as for mechanics, 2010 Audi A8 has some new features to offer. The basic version will come with a front-wheel-drive system and a CVT gearbox connected to a six-cylinder 2.8 liter engine. The big A8 will also be available with a twin-turbocharged four-cylinder engine! And inevitably, a hybrid variant would come out later on. You still get the big V8 with the top of the range model, so don’t despair!

Audi A5 cabriolet

2010 Audi A5 quattro cabriolet
It will warm back or butt like many others, but what sets the Audi A5 cabriolet apart is that it will warm your melon as well.

Yup, turn on the seat heater, press the fan button along the side of the front seat and warm air is directed up and out a vent just below the headrest. Audi calls it a "heated scarf" so you can drive with the top down a little longer into the fall without brain freeze.

What next, heat ducts in the floor mats to toast the toes?

Sadly, the feature in the optional $2,400 comfort system only warms, not cools, the head, at least for now. We tested the 2010 Audi A5 cabriolet with head warmer and all-wheel drive, or quattro in Audi parlance.

The "A" doesn't stand for adorable, though it could. It's a neat-looking, low-slung, wide-body, soft-top convertible, which powers down at the push of a console button.

Since the top is thick cloth, you'll hear more wind and road noise than you would with a retractable hardtop, but not much thanks to its acoustic design. But the canvas must be kept out of heavy snows.

When down, the top slides into what looks like a slim drawer in the roof of the trunk. It stows so neatly you can load small packages and luggage in the trunk. Need a little more room? Levers drop either or both rear seatbacks flat for more cargo space.

The top folds and hides in 15 seconds, even if you're going 30 mph, so sudden storms won't force a detour to a detailer.

2010 Audi A8: Centenary Brochure Brings First Teaser Photos

Hidden somewhere in the press material for Audi's 100th anniversary were two teaser photos of the next generation A8 sedan that is scheduled to be unveiled after the Frankfurt Auto Show, sometime towards the end of November. The first shot shows the 2010 A8 covered in a black sheet, outlining the limousine's body and revealing the LED day time lights as well as the shape of the grille while the other picture is a teaser sketch of the sedan's front-end.

The new A8 that will continue to use Audi's lightweight aluminum chassis will be available with a revised engine line up which will include the Ingolstadt-based firm's new 3.0-liter supercharged V6. A more potent supercharged V8 engine is also said to be offered in the mix as will be a wide range of turbo diesel units.
