Toyota Prius Next Generation Hybrid Car

According to Auto Observer, Toyota is preparing the next generation for the year 2009 launch of the Prius. The new Prius will be powered by a 1.8 liter engine and will come with nickel metal hydride batteries to start. It is expected that the Prius will get bigger in size.

2011 Toyota Prius Hybrid Car

Toyota announces 2011 all new cars hybrid Prius. Backed by a four-cylinder engine 1.8-liter VVT-i offers 98 hp at 5200 rpm and 105 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. Magnet 2011 Toyota Prius electric motor's synchronous, on the other hand, provides 80 hp and153 lb-ft of torque. It features fuel-efficient 50 mpg.

2011 Toyota Prius offers three driving modes: EV-Drive Mode allows driving on battery power alone at low speeds for about a mile, if conditions permit. There is also a Power Mode, which increases sensitivity to throttle input for a sportier feel, and an Eco Mode, which helps the driver achieve their best mileage.

Toyota Prius reaches a milestone (EU)

Toyota is rejoicing in selling its 200,000th Prius hybrid in Europe. The sedan hit the European market back in 2000, with sales reaching 100,000 in 2008. However, with the arrival of the Prius III, and a shift in buying trends towards cars which are apparently as greener, Toyota has sold a further 100,000 units in the last two years. In the U.S, the Prius hybrid has sold in excess of 680,000 units since its launch in 1997.

Over the Prius’ 10 years on sale, many enhancements to its Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain saw fuel consumption drop by more than 23% and CO2 emissions plummet by around 26%. This has been achieved despite power increasing by 30%.

The UK is the Prius’ largest European market with more than 1 in 5 sales in the UK. This year’s sales to date are at 6,579 units, almost equalling the 2009 figure in just six months.

Confirming the Prius’ presence as a mainstream model the world over, Toyota expects global sales to reach 2m by the Autumn of this year.

Toyota Prius Sales may Collapse in Japan as Hybrid Subsidies End

For more than a year now, this has enjoyed some hefty sales in Japan thanks to the government subsidies. But now that the cash-for-clunkers program is coming to an end, sales of Toyota's hybrid model will most likely take a hit, according to automotive analysts.

Under the program, many Japanese buyers flocked to trade in their 13+ year-old car for a Prius. With the subsidy window coming to a close, there will be a need for dealers to readjust their sales strategy.

Tokyo Toyopet Motor Sales Co. new-car sales chief Hiromi Inoue claims dealers will be ready for the upcoming "unavoidable collapse" after the program ends. He says, "The daily pace of orders for the Prius is already dropping [from an average of 20 cars a day in June to 8 in August]. We are bracing ourselves for the coming crisis."

The Japan Automobile Dealers Association says they are expecting Japanese car sales in total to take a 23% dip, following a post-subsidy trend started in Europe and America.

Part of Toyota's sales drop specifically is due to a backlog for the Prius, which means that between the order time and delivery the subsidy window will have closed. Some analysts think dealers will try to balance the unavoidable sales drop with their own incentives. This will thankfully be padded by some of Toyota's cleverly-spent repair costs.

Basically, Toyota overpaid its dealers for the repairs needed in that massive recall, which gives dealers a little room to work with financially. Other plans to bottleneck that negative sales flow include banking on fleet buyers and reminding consumers of the other benefits of owning a hybrid (like tax breaks).

Competing Japanese automakers could be looking at drops as high as 21% (Honda) or as minimized as 1% (Nissan).

A Toyota spokesperson stated that "Toyota chose this name because the Prius vehicle is the predecessor of cars to come."

Some enthusiasts enjoy using "Prii" as the plural, which would be correct if "prius" were a regular second declension Latin noun. The actual Latin plural of the adjective is "priora" (Reference is slightly in error here). All of these forms are nominative case and there are several other forms for the other cases. As for the plural of "Prius" in English, Toyota has said that it is simply "Prius" and also that owners are welcome to use whatever they like.

Toyota Launches 3rd Generation Hybrid Car Toyota Prius in India

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd. (TKM) today launched the latest generation of the Prius in India at the Auto Expo 2010 that is underway in New Delhi. To further emphasise Toyota’s commitment to the environment, the Altis CNG was also launched, and the Innova CNG and Camry Hybrid were on display.

Toyota Altis CNG and Innova CNG

The use of CNG significantly reduces exhaust emissions, and delivers high performance at low costs with an increase in mileage. The Innova CNG was launched in March 2009, and the Altis CNG was launched today at the Auto Expo. Booking of the Altis CNG will begin soon after the Auto Expo with a price tag of xxxx.ex showroom, New Delhi and will be available only in select markets.

The Altis CNG conforms to high quality and safety standards as approved by government authorized agencies and its features include a Sequential Type Gas Injection Technology, integrated mounting with engine cylinder head and ECU with Spark Timing Advance Processor for better fuel efficiency & lower emissions.

Toyota Camry Hybrid

Although there are no plans of launching the Camry Hybrid in India, the car was showcased to highlight its environmental performance. The Camry Hybrid uses the Toyota Hybrid System (Hybrid Synergy Drive) - same as Prius - for outstanding fuel efficiency.
