Yamaha Electric Bike Soon in India

The leading Japanese bike maker Yamaha announced on Saturday that it is mulling over the option of rolling-out an electric bike in the Indian market to provide an alternative transportation mode. The Indian subsidiary of the Yamaha Motors is developing an India specific scooter that will hit the Indian roads in near future.

In a statement given to PTI, India Yamaha Motor Director (Sales and Marketing) Jun Nakata said, "For rising fuel prices, electric bike is a good option. Currently we are selling electric bikes in Japan and Europe. There is a possibility for the Indian market for introducing these products." However, the company is yet to disclose the specification and pricing details of this prospective electric bike in the country.

The company had announced last year that it would focus more on Indian market with more investment. The company is aiming to have 10 per cent of its total global sales from India in coming 3 to 4 years.

While answering a query regarding the scooter segment, Mr. Nakata said, "We are preparing to enter the scooter market. The product is under development in Japan and it will be an India-specific product."

Yamaha 250cc Bike in India Coming Soon

India Yamaha is all ready to leap in Indian 250cc bike market with the launching of a 250cc bike in this year. In the same segment, Kawasaki Ninja 250R and Honda CBR 250R have attracted bike lovers; other companies are also working on 250cc bikes in India that include Bajaj Pulsar 250R, TVS Apache 250R and Suzuki GW250. The launch of the Yamaha 250cc bike is expected before end of this year or on Diwali. The new Yamaha 250cc bike is expected with competitor price range of between Rs. 1.75 lakhs to 2.0 lakhs.

Yamaha 250cc bike is expected in Yamaha FZ series and it might be loaded with a single cylinder fuel injected 250 cc engine with liquid cooling. It might be Naked motorcycle as Suzuki GW250. The bike will have general but aerodynamic body design and attractive graphics. This upcoming Yamaha 250cc bike might be loaded with dual disc brake and latest security system ABS as Honda CBR 250R. It would also have 4 valves and an adjustable monoshock at the rear. As other entry-level sports bikes, it is expected with fatter tyres to give it sporty and bold look in the segment.
Yamaha India is doing well in Indian market and having almost all the segment bikes from entry-level to supersports. The company is providing reliable and durable two-wheelers and recently launched Yamaha SZ that is awarded by 'Bike of the Year Award'. In Yamaha's portfolio Yamaha VMAX is the high-end super.

Yamaha FZ1

IT’S ALL HAPPENING on the Indian two-wheeler front. The trickle of superbikes, which were once a distant dream for Indian aficionados, seems to have turned into a flood and today one can pick and choose from a wide range of world-class 800cc-plus models. Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Ducati, KTM and even Harley-Davidson have set up shop in India, offering dream machines ranging from track bred supersports machines to heavy cruisers.
Yamaha set the ball rolling towards the end of 2007, and still has a formidable line-up of superbikes on sale. However, what it lacked was a practical big bike but that’s a shortcoming that’s soon to be addressed for big brother to the FZ-16 — the 1000cc FZ1 — is on the verge of being launched across India.
We got astride the latest Yamaha for a quick spin and there’s plenty to be excited about.
The FZ1 packs loads of understated s treet presence and screams out muscle. The styling is macho and powerful, the 1 openly flaunting its brawny engine and alloy frame. This Yamaha displays ample aggression as well as a healthy dose of pose value but without ever looking overdone. Much of the bike is coated in black, including its five-spoke alloys, front suspension, engine, stubby silencer and side panels. The FZ1 has a minimalist front mudguard and an arrow-shaped headlight with brilliant illumination. The handlebar sits flat alongside compact instruments. The analogue rpm gauge, redlines between 12000 and 13000rpm, and the digital display shows speed, fuel level, engine temperature, odometer, time as well as twin trip.

The 1 comes with excellent quality switches, grips and particularly nice mirrors. Its buffed alloy levers look smart and the brake side adjusts for reach; the clutch lacks this but makes up by offering cable play regulation at the yoke. The naked 1’s sleek and broad 18-litre fuel tank provides ample thigh support and blends perfectly into the stepped riding saddle. Smart side panels meet a dual-tone tail-fairing and a truly nifty tail light.
A high level of attention to detail is evident on the 1 as is top-notch quality for all parts, as well as rubbers and plastic that impart a sturdy, built-to-last feel.
The FZ1 shares its brilliant liquid-cooled engine with the previous-generation Yamaha YZF-R1 in a relatively street friendly state-of-tune with revised gearing to match its multipurpose role. Four vertically stacked, short-stroke (each measuring 77 x 56.3mm) cylinders sit packed in-line, displacing 998cc and outputting a prodigious 150bhp at 11000rpm. The maximum torque generated is 10.8kgm at 8000rpm, with four valves punching inside each fuel-injected cylinder.
While experienced superbike riders used to brutal torque-enriched power delivery from bigger bikes like the Suzuki Hayabusa may find the FZ1 lacking low- and mid-range grunt, it is still easy to find yourself addicted to the FZ1’s incredible top-end performance. The 1 feels best wound up past 6000rpm, at which point it pulls with arm-wrenching gusto all the way to its 11500rpm limiter. Fueling is slightly abrupt, the injection feeding in a touch unpredictably below 4000rpm. Yet, things smoothen out thereafter with bullish, vibe-free power melting  even the fastest cars on Indian highways into your mirrors. The FZ1 is capable of nudging 133kph in first gear and we got it to bash through the 100kph mark 3.86sec after blast-off. Its single silencer belts out a fantastic exhaust note on throttle overrun like the older R1, and the big Yam feels right at home whizzing down highways in the vicinity of 140kph, while still capable of maintaining lower speeds in city traffic. Top speed is impressive in the region of 255kph.
A drawback to the 1 is that heat tends to rise from its engine bay and bothers the rider at low speeds. However, to be fair to the bike, this could be due to our torrid weather and slow-moving urban riding conditions, and is not as troublesome as its gearbox.
The FZ1 comes with a six-speed, one-down and five-up shifting gearbox that is heavy to operate. Clutch feedback and the gearshifts are precise with no false neutrals, but long rides will have you yearning for lighter effort to change up or down this ’box.
Yamaha has given the FZ1 an alloy twin-spark frame and swingarm, plus top-drawer fully adjustable suspension at both ends. There are upside-down forks in front, a monoshock at the rear
and sticky tyres at both ends, with a generous 190/50 x 17-incher at the rear.
Wide, flat handbars and an upright seating position help the FZ1 stay comfortable over short distances but the inadequate seat and the lack of a fairing means high-speed cruising over 150kph is an arduous affair. While the ride quality is good and can be tailored to suit your needs, the bike’s handling is really tidy. No, the 1 isn’t quite as light and nimble as its arch rival, Honda’s CB1000R, or supersports models like the YZF-R1 that can outdo the FZ1, but this motorcycle still handles corners eagerly and with solid stability, always steering with a neutral, predictable feel. The 1 comes with fantastic brakes — twin 320mm discs in front and a 245mm single rotor at the rear.
You will have to wait for our complete road test to get accurate fuel consumption numbers, but expect the FZ1 to deliver close to 20kpl.
Now for the big number; We hear the pricing for the truly versatile, city friendly, and still sporty FZ1 is going to be competitive, close to Rs 9,50,000 (ex-showroom), even close to which point Yamaha is certain to have another winner on its Indian shelves.

MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi: The Biggest Star Visit India

India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. underscored its leadership in global motorsports by bringing Valentino Rossi, the biggest star the sport has ever seen, to India. This is their latest initiative to underscore India's significance in their global plans after the launch of internationally popular models such as VMAX (1,679cc), YZF-R1 (998cc) and MT01 (1,670cc). The global star was presented along with Indian biking icon and India Yamaha's brand ambassador John Abraham in an interesting conversation where Rossi talked about his special relationship with Yamaha. Rossi earlier visited Auto Expo on January 9th to meet with his fans and look at Yamaha’s exciting motorcycle range on display at company's stall.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Yukimine Tsuji, CEO & Managing Director, said, "It is a great moment for India Yamaha Motor to welcome Valentino Rossi to the country. Globally we are a brand known for Motor Sports and we have already initiated the racing culture in India. We are now looking forward to replicate the motor sporting culture in a bigger manner in India. Valentino Rossi is an icon of international sport and in his first visit to India, millions of Indian fans have shown how much they are involved with the sport by their enthusiastic response to his visit. The amount of excitement we witnessed here has surpassed anything we have ever experienced here".

India Yamaha's brand ambassador, John Abraham said, "I have been the biggest fan of Valentino Rossi and ardent follower of his racing career. I still remember meeting him at Brno Grand Prix in 2005 and it is a pleasure to meet the icon again. It is this motor sporting culture and excitement that strengthens my association with the brand. It feels great to co-endorse the brand with the most famous biking legend. My association with Yamaha is truly a special one and I look forward to work closely with the brand".

These are exciting times at Yamaha, with the company going aggressive with its growth strategy for India and leaving no stone unturned in taking biking culture to the next level and Rossi's visit is a step towards this direction.

Rossi's World Championship debut came at the Malaysian Grand Prix in 1996 and he finished his first international season in 9th place with one race win. He became the youngest ever rider in 1997 to take the 125cc World Championship, winning eleven races along the way with Aprilia.

Rossi made history by moving to Yamaha in 2004 and winning the season-opening Grand Prix. He went on to win nine out of 16 races, clinching the World Championship, Yamaha’s first for 12 years, with victory at the penultimate Grand Prix in Phillip Island. He dominated the 2005 season by winning 11 races and helping Yamaha win the Manufacturers and Team titles. In 2006, Rossi took five race wins and five pole positions, more than any other rider. With 9 wins, 16 podiums (both breaking records) and his eighth crown, his sixth in the category with Yamaha YZR-M1, Rossi, popularly known as The Doctor established himself as the greatest ever MotoGP racer in 2008. Rossi cemented his place in the history of Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing in 2009 with seventh title in the premier class and fourth for Yamaha, more than any other manufacturer.

Racing has been in the heart of Yamaha ever since the company was formed in 1955. Yamaha has also set a number of milestones in the racing world, becoming the first Japanese manufacturer to win a 500cc Grand Prix (with Jarno Saarinen in 1973) and the first Japanese company to win the 500cc world title, with Giacomo Agostini in 1975, the first time a two-stroke machine had won in the premier class. After pioneering a generation of two-stroke racers, Yamaha is using the new generation four-stroke machines that Stefan Everts has dominated world championship motocross, winning six titles between 2001 and 2006.

Yamaha India Unveiled 2010 YZF-R1: Super Sports Bike @ Rs.12.5 Lakhs

After kick starting the trend two years back, Yamaha is back to fuel the growing appetite for super bikes in India with the launch of Super Sports 2010 YZF-R1 in the Indian market. With the launch of this machine, Yamaha is all set to enhance the joy of Indian riders and experience true 'Art of Engineering', which lies at the heart of Yamaha's creations. Embodying the dynamic and exhilarating spirit that today's super sport rider demands, the MotoGP-inspired R1 is the most advanced Open-class production motorcycle.

Yamaha was the first two wheeler company to introduce the genre of super sports and torque sports performance bike in India with the launch of YZF-R1 and MT01, two years ago. The introduction of these machines, illustrates company's aim of enriching Indian bikers riding experience while elevating the current biking paradigm.

Signifying the launch, Mr. Yukimine Tsuji, CEO & MD, India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd., said, "While the market for superbikes in India is still limited, consumer response to our previously launched YZF-R1, MT01 and latest VMAX superbikes has been overwhelming. The Yamaha 2010 YZF-R1 superbike model carries Yamaha's DNA – Performance, Innovation and Design & has one of the most advanced technologies available in the world. Its launch signifies our successful brand transformation efforts in India. In future also, we would continue to launch products that will associate the Indian biking enthusiasts with the combined thrill of technological superiority and artistic brilliance."

The Yamaha 2010 YZF-R1 represents a paradigm shift in technology, performance and controllability among litre class sport bikes. The 2010 YZF-R1 has been designed to be the "Ultimate Cornering Master 1000" of the open super sport class. Inspired by Yamaha's M1 MotoGP race bike, this latest generation 998cc R1 features a crossplane crankshaft design with an uneven firing order to provide outstanding yet easy to control torque and an exceptionally linear throttle feel never experienced before. But there is far more to R1 than just a revolutionary engine.

Crossplane crankshaft technology proven in victory after victory on MotoGP machines provides a high-tech uneven firing interval. Unlike typical inline-four engine design, where the two outer and two inner pistons move together in pairs with 180° intervals, the crossplane crankshaft has each connecting rod 90° with a unique firing order of 270° – 180° – 90° – 180°. This overcomes the inherent fluctuations in inertial torque during each engine revolution, and the accompanying peaky torque characteristics. Instead, combustion torque continues to build, giving the rider more linear throttle response with awesome power and traction out of the corners.

This Yamaha 2010 YZF-R1 keeps all the technological superiorities developed for its predecessor: YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) is MotoGP inspired fly-by-wire technology used to deliver instant throttle response. YCC-I is Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake which is a variable intake system that broadens the spread of power. The fuel injection system provides optimum air/fuel mixtures for maximum power and smooth throttle response.

The Yamaha 2010 YZF-R1 features Yamaha D-MODE (or drive mode) with rider-selectable throttle control maps to program YCC-T performance characteristics for riding conditions.

In keeping with this machine's exceptional cornering ability and crisp handling, the aluminum frame has been designed to offer exceptional rigidity balance. The rear frame is lightweight Controlled-Fill die-cast magnesium, contributing the optimum mass centralization. The bodywork does more than add break-away-from-the-crowd styling with its more serious, less busy look. The side fairing is smooth for a sleek appearance. And, instead of the usual four-bulb headlight design, the R1 has only two projector-type bulbs mounted closer to the nose of the bike. This position rams air ducts closer in for a more compact, smooth look. In addition, the rounded lenses are unique to the supersport industry.

The frame has a combination of uncompromising rigidity where needed along with carefully achieved flex for the precise rigidity balance this bike needs to give the rider the full benefit of its handling and engine characteristics.

The press-formed fuel tank has a shape developed using 3-D simulation analysis technology. The elongated shape of the tank allows it to fit neatly within the frame in a way that promotes concentration of mass.

Yamaha 2010 YZF-R1 will be available in 24 authorized Yamaha CBU dealerships in 13 cities including 4 Yamaha Factory Shops located in Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Kolkata and is priced at Rs. 12.5 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom, All India). The color options in Yamaha 2010 YZF-R1 will be Blue, Metallic Black & Bluish White.

Yamaha believes that developing motorcycles is both a technological and an artistic endeavor. It pursues a level of performance that transcends mere specifications. The goal is to produce technologically superior motorcycles that should have a deep and intangible emotional appeal. It is what defines the company and this is what we call the “Art of Engineering".

As part of its Yes! Yamaha campaign, Yamaha has introduced the unique concept of Yamaha Bike Station (YBS), an authorized Yamaha Dealership with the Best 3S facility - Best Showroom, Best Service Facility and Genuine Parts.

Customer Satisfaction has always been the top priority of Yamaha and the company is planning to enhance Yamaha Bike Station numbers to 180 from current 100. The Yamaha Best Service Stations are planned to increase to 250 in 2010.

Yamaha will also come up with customer-centric events like Yamaha Safety Riding Science to educate the Indian youth and incorporate Safe riding culture among them. Moreover, Yamaha has also planned Service Camps across India along with rural mobile service vans in the year 2010.

2010 Yamaha FJR1300A Supersport Touring

2010 Yamaha FJR1300A Supersport Touring
It might seem that the 2010 Honda VFR1200F has come to reinvent the supersport touring segment, but manufacturers such as Yamaha have their own classic approach towards offering a motorcycle that is fast, comfortable and built to last, the 2010 FJR1300A. Those of you who are familiar with the name will say that the FJR1300AE is an even better choice thanks to Yamaha’s electric-shift five-speed transmission, which eliminates the clutch and offer riders effortless electric shifting, but Yamaha has discontinued this model for 2010 and leaves FJR riders completely in charge over the bike’s functions.
Considering the fact that Yamaha brags about the new FJR1300A offering an incredibly smooth ride, you first tend to think they simply took the best from the AE model – the fancy transmission and clutch – and fitted it on the A one, which was to carry on as a 2010 model year, but no. Along time, sales have shown that riders prefer the FJR’s beautiful combination between power coming from the 1298cc, liquid-cooled, inline-four; DOHC, 16 valves engine and sporty handling characteristics ensured by a light aluminum frame.
Broadly, the right engine and chassis “make” the bike and in this case, the fuel-injected mill is mated to a five-speed gearbox and a shaft stands as the final drive, while the forks are 48mm, fully adjustable units capable of 5.4 inches of travel and the rear shock, which is preload and rebound adjustable, offers 4.8 inches of travel. Although none of these features are new on the bike, they do help us show how engineers managed to do the trick with this motorcycle. The brakes are very important as well for this 641 lbs two-wheeler and the fact that ABS is standard on the 2010 Yamaha FJR1300A comes as an ease of things for most riders.
Technically, this bike doesn’t get any reproaches, but in order to be a refined sports tourer it needs to offer the proper comfort and wind protection. And with adjustable ergonomics and windshield, the 2010 Yamaha FJR1300A doesn’t show any signs of not being precisely that.
As we earlier mentioned, people tend to compare the fairly unchanged 2010 Yamaha FJR1300A with the new, sport-oriented 2010 Honda VFR1200F and we’ll have to say that if that would be the case, the subject of this article won’t stand a change, but the 2009 Honda ST1300 is still going strong and has plenty to show against our bike, especially in terms of touring-like comfort and excellent wind protection. So the battle between Big Red and Racing Blue should start a new round after Honda calls the ST1300 a 2010 model year.

2010 Yamaha FJR1300A Supersport Touring
Although not redesigned for 2010, the fact is that the FJR1300A looks like a fully-faired and completely accessorized FZ1 on steroids. Designers made sure this bike will fulfill its rider’s needs during long journeys by developing the advanced air management system and adjustable bodywork, which spoil the rider.
The foamy seat can be adjusted from 31.69 to 32.48 inches above the ground and the windscreen is pushbutton adjustable as well. But these are matters of finesse. What truly strikes you is how aerodynamic the fairing actually is, indicating that it doesn’t get a lot of those “fix this” stickers when being tested in the air tunnel. Also, the thing looks very aggressive and the mirrors look bigger than those of a Mini, contributing at the bike making its presence truly felt down the open road. We even heard a car driver saying “that thing looks scary in my rear view mirror” at a gas station once, but didn’t quite believe him.
With the footpegs positioned right at the middle of the bike and the handlebars brought close to the rider, the FJR offers an upright riding position and shows that it will sacrifice looks over comfort at any time even though this is not the case. Onboard, the Instrument panel features an electronic analog speedometer and tachometer; LCD digital odometer, dual tripmeters, gear position indicator, fuel, coolant and air temperature gauges, and clock; lights for neutral, high beam, turn signals, low oil and engine warnings—as well as real-time mileage, average mileage and air temperature, just like you would expect from a bike in this segment. Still, it’s the sidecases that complete the FJR’s sport-touring look as not everyone who looks at the bike will get to swing a leg over it, so it’s good they get the right opinion from the first glance.
Liquid Silver is the only color available for the 2010 Yamaha FJR1300A and we believe it suits it best because this is one of those things you now see and then you don’t.

2010 Yamaha FJR1300A Supersport Touring
But riders who want this to be a constant presence in their lives will have to look over the fairly spicy $15,190 MSRP considering that the 2010 Kawasaki Concours 14 starts at $14,599 and the ABS model at $15,299 and these are upgraded bikes that we’re talking about. Expect to find it at your local dealer in February.
It seems that Yamaha relies on the FJR1300A’s fame to obtain the best results in the year to come and they don’t have a big retention when it comes to price. That is because nobody complained about these motorcycles so far and for good reason.

Yamaha India Launched VMAX: 1680cc Super Bike @ 20 Lakh

NEW DELHI: Japanese bike major Yamaha on Wednesday drove in its 1,680cc super bike VMAX, priced at Rs. 20 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the most expensive bike so far launched in India. Notwithstanding this steep price, which can buy a premium luxury car, the company has already got nine bookings and hopes to close the year with 25.

"India is one of the key markets for Yamaha. We are constantly shifting gears to transform the market from utility to pleasure and lifestyle. With the launch of all-new VMAX, Yamaha brings a new credo for the bikers in India," Yamaha Motor India CEO Yukimine Tsuji said after unveiling the bike in the presence of the company's brand ambassador & Bollywood actor John Abraham.

Yamaha already sells two expensive bikes — 1670cc MT01 and 998cc bike YZF-R1 —both priced above Rs 12 lakh. Tsuji said the company has sold 100 units of the R1 and 50 units if the MT01 so far. "While we do not expect sale of many units, we believe there is a set of enthusiasts in India which is interested in brands like the Yamaha VMAX. This is like a dream bike for them, something like a Porsche is in cars," Tsuji said.

However, he admitted that poor road infrastructure was a stumbling block to the sale and acceptance of such products. The entry of Yamaha VMAX comes days after Harley Davidson announced plans to drive in its cruisers next year. "Given rapid development of Indian economy and physical infrastructure, this is the right time to bring the world's greatest motorcycles to one of the world's largest motorcycling nations," Harley-Davidson president, COO Matthew Levatich said earlier.
While India is the world's second-biggest motorcycle market after China, it is primarily a low-cost bike nation. However, a niche segment appears to be developing in the expensive segment, prompting companies like Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki to launch their premium bike range here, all costing around Rs 10 lakh and above.
